Description
I shot this image on our property just eight short months after a devastating wildfire on Casper Mountain in Casper, Wyoming. The fog was rolling in so I grabbed my camera and took a short hike to the area where my husband's family homestead cabin once stood before the September 2012 wildfire.
Hiking by myself through the burned forest where we had made so many memories, was a little eery at first. The burned trees all around me...the smell of burned wood still present...and the fog slowly moving through the blackened tree skeletons.
Then I noticed all the new growth...new aspen trees, pine trees an inch tall, wildflowers, grasses...all emerging through the ashes with little rain droplets quenching their thirst. It was then that the eery feeling subsided...and a sense of calm overcame me. Words cannot do that feeling justice.
