Description
Having seen bear tracks and mountain lion tracks in the Summer of 2015 on Casper Mountain, I was a little unnerved when my husband whispered to me on a hike... "you got your camera with you?" I was expecting to see that my husband had spotted a bear or mountain lion. Instead, I was pleased to see this beautiful Great Horned Owl looking back at us! My very first shot of an owl in the wild!! I was so happy!
This area of Casper Mountain in Casper, Wyoming was hit by a devastating wildfire in September of 2012. The tree this owl is sitting in was charred and killed in the fire and still has dead pine needles on its branches. In the background, you can see the green of new life in the form or young aspen trees. The owl had the perfect camouflage for this setting.
